“Thug Rock” is the debut release by Sandy Kerr on small South Carolina label Catawba. Sandy is the daughter of George Kerr who was a prolific soul writer/producer since the 1960’s. For this record, George Kerr collaborated with Sugarhill hip-hop/electro artist Reggie Griffin. For your information, they both produced the classic Boogie/Funk hit “S&M (Sexy Music)” for Dede one year later on Clockwork Records.
“Thug Rock” is a killer boogie/rap cut based on a sample from UK band I-Level’s club hit “Give Me” which came out the same year. This tune received heavy rotation in UK clubs and was a big underground favourite for DJs such as Greg Wilson. This 12” features the monster in-demand dub ‘Chimental’ version on the flip that is truly an amazing version!
