Kool & The Gang – “Summer Madness” (1974)

The perfect song for a warm summer night. The title says it all. Can’t imagine a better situation to sit under a clear night sky in good company. Then you
know: Life is good !
PS: Who doesn’t love the Rocky scene when he comes home & turns the radio on…?

2 Solar Plex – “Why Did You Walk” (1981)

I’m a big fan of cheesy love lyrics. I just love to sit down, relax and listen to lyrics like this. This song has an amazing hook that shows it all. Love,
Pain, Hope … Everybody knows and feels what they are singing about…

3.What’s your favorite tune for a romantic evening?

Brazilian Singers – “O Telefone Tocou Novamente” (2016)

Some of the greatest love lyrics I ever listened too. This song sets me in the special mood. Never get tired of listening to this. The best version of this Jorge Ben classic
in my opinion.

4. What’s your favorite tune to shake your body down to the ground?

Mandingo Brass – “E.L.B. Jam” (1981)

A caribbean classic to me. I don’t remember having listened to a greater brass section. Positive feelings and the need to smile in every second of this song. I can’t
sit down when this is played. Funnily enough this was edited and came out on 12“ these days on BBE but I prefer the OG over everything.

5. What’s the tune that gives you instant nostalgia?

San Francisco Street Music – “Growing Up” (2000)

100% Real Life Raps. No Gangsta shit, just honest lines from this westcoast cult group. I could tell hours & hours how much their positive rap and dusty self produced 4track tape stuff influenced my way of thinking. I love this imperfection , no Hi-Gloss productions or fake attitudes. I’m listening to this for 15 years and still have the same feelings as it was the first time. You don’t need to sell drugs or live in the Ghetto to have something to say. Litlle side fact: This Phil Upchurch sample is taken of one of my first funk records I bought.

DJ Kobex/Funkfreaks based in Hamburg / Germany got into OLD SCHOOL ELECTRO FUNK, VOCODER FUNK and ELECTRO RAP in his early age. His passion for collecting Funk records since 1993 encouraged him right away to figure out scratching and mixing vinyl. By 2008, the BOOGIEFUNK with its strong bass lines and positive vibes inspired hugely his sounds. He became a member of Funkfreaks Crew in 2013 and in 2015 he won the “Omega Supreme Records Mixtape Contest”. For him, Funk is an attitude towards life and a lifestyle. Besides playing Funk music, he also drafts Funk graphic designs and crafts T-shirts in manual serigraphy technique. DJ Kobex performs in European cities like Hamburg, Berlin and Paris, and in spring 2018 he was a guest act in Southern California and Arizona..

1. What’s your favorite tune to cruise at night?

Contrast – “Slippin In The Night” (1985)

Actually,the title of this song gives already the answer to that question. In the foreground groove of this track, there are this clacking snaredrum and intense bassline. This gem producted by Henry A. Hayes has some fresh vocals aswell. This sound is just an allover nasty bass hitter.

2. What’s your favorite tune to chill?

2 Of The Crew – “All Day Chill” (1997)

This track catapults me right away into DJ Ney’s/Funkfreaks ) pick up in California. He played it loudly while cruising through Santa Ana during my visit in April 2018. That was the first time I heard that song and I was blown away! This feeling embodies that local funk lifestyle in California and it gives me goose bumps thinking about it. G-Funk for me is directly connected to Modern Funk and 80s Funk – for sure, I will extend my G-Funk record collection.

3.What’s your favorite tune for a romantic evening?

Ken Chaney – “Ready For Your Love” (1985)

This is a record I do not own that long, but it’s definitely one of those records that stands out from others – this rhythm is unique. A strong bass line with marvelous rounding-up piano insertions. When I listen to this song, an incredibly positive vibe impacts me. I could hear it all night long… in an infinite loop! Ready for your love…

4. What’s your favorite tune to shake your body down to the ground?

Gift Of Dreams – “Funkincise” (1982)

This track makes me freak out, this is just PARTY! To keep it short, all at this sound is freaky and heavy at the same time: synths, guitar, beat and vocals. All around a big production.

5. What’s the tune that gives you instant nostalgia?

The Evasions – “Let’s Dance (The Passage)” (1982)

Yeah, this track moves me back to my early years, 1992-1993, when I was a 13-year-old kid starting listening to 80s Rap and Electro Funk. Grandmaster Flash “The Message“ was – of course – one of those must have records. The according Boogie Track Evasions – “Let’s Dance The Passage“, I discovered 20 years later and I reached out for that record immediately. Absolutely a real blast! It feels like being 13 years old again when all began.

Brackos is a French DJ from Paris born in 1985. At the age of 10, he discovered the wonderful world of Disco Funk through various CD compilations, including the famous STAR-FUNK compilations released by Unidisk (Canada) in the early 90’s . By 1999, his passion has completely invaded him and he started to purchase his first turntable as well as classic 80s Funk album on vinyl. His debut will be strongly influenced by other DJs such as Kheops, Mouss or Abdel. He will perfect his mix technique and his own selections while continuing to deepen his musical culture for several years.

In 2006, with the creation of his Myspace account, Brackos is quickly spotted and contacted to mix in Parisian nights. Since 2008, he ‘s regularly booked to blast his explosive Boogie-funk sets showcasing his favorite producers like Kashif, Narada Michael Walden, Leroy Burgess, Nick Martinelli … and Nickee B more recently. Brakos made very good contacts with 80’s artists during all these years, a production should see the day, one day or the other … Something to follow!

In March 2018, Howard Johnson choosed him to do the warm-up and after show of his 2 Parisian dates.

1. What’s your favorite tune to cruise at night?

A track that makes you want to burn the road! A catchy rhythm, easy to sing… Pure ecstasy! Henry Horne from THS is well known for his boogie monster “Kinky Girl”, with the band Creations. One of my favorite tracks. A New York sound as I like.

2. What’s your favorite tune to chill?

Colorblind – “Crazy” (1984)

I got hooked on this song right away! The piano at the beginning reminds me of George Benson”s classic song “Turn Your Love Around”. A perfect sound to listen to late afternoon on the French Riviera (our French equivalent of California lol !)

3.What’s your favorite tune for a romantic evening?

B.B. & Q. Band – “Genie” (1985)

Definitely the most difficult choice! I am often considered by my female audience as a “lover”. In each of my playlists, you would find 80% of songs that talk about love! I chose “Genie” because its the perfect tune to close an evening and accompany couples who have just formed.

4. What’s your favorite tune to shake your body down to the ground?

Master Jam – “Dancin’ All Night” (1982)

A sound that I love mixing during my dj sets. If you don’t dance on it or even move, then there’s nothing I can do for you… This big track was mixed by the great Nick Martinelli. It was not easy to choose a song in this category, I could have chose hundred other tracks!

5. What’s the tune that gives you instant nostalgia?

Passion – “Don’t Stop My Love” (1982)

My anthem! This sound has everything unlocked. I discovered this sound on the mixtape “Total Prelude” by DJ Kheops, released in the summer of 2001. I’ve never stopped listening to it since! This song made me discover Kashif’s productions afterwards … On this awesome song you will find Dr. York (executive producer), François Kevorkian(mixing), Herb Powers Jr. (mastering) and of course the master Kashif (writing). This song will be featured in Kashif’s album one year later. Dr. York’s version of 1985 is softer, which contrasts with the story of the character …

Randy “Hotthobo” Ellis is a co-owner and label manager of Hobo Camp Records and Voltaire Records in California, longtime vinyl DJ/collector, host of the NTS radio program “Mint Condition”, as well as a producer, re-mixer, arranger, event promoter/coordinator and frequent contributor/collaborator to projects like Loose Shus, Chautauqua, Elegant Borzoi and Relish. Wah Wah Watson – “Good Friends” (1976)

A true cruiser, the guitar licks get you instantly prepped for the ride, and quickly the whole arrangement just builds and falls right into place. The bass is heavy and repetitive enough, but still totally live with licks and feels galore. Wah Wah (born Melvin Ragin) was a seriously in-demand session guitar player, so if you ever want to trip out, check out the long list of classic tunes he played on.

2. What’s your favorite tune to chill?

General Lee & The Space Army Band – “We Did It Baby” (1979)

“We Did It Baby” sonically replicates the same feeling that I get levitating through clouds in my dreams. The instrumentation, chords, strings and vocal glide along lushly, and instantly put me at ease.

3.What’s your favorite tune for a romantic evening?

Leroy Hutson – “Paradise'” (1982)

Saxophones, synth bass and heavy breathing with Leroy’s amazing vocals rounding it out…can’t think of anything much more sensual than that. Chicago soul always seems a step deeper than the rest, Leroy being a perfect example of the Chicago sound throughout his career, with this particular track exemplifing that notion.

4. What’s your favorite tune to shake your body down to the ground?

Blue Feather – “Let’s Funk Tonight” 12” Mix (1981)

his one gets in the groove and just keeps pushing…once it opens up to the solos, it’s certified dancefloor mania, breaking it down for everyone to actually get into a trance and follow wherever they happen to be taken organically…and you can play this one looooong. When dancing to most songs it’s typical to just grab onto one thing (for me its typically the bass and drum patterns), and just ride that out, but with this track as a dancer you can literally follow any instrument and jump between them.

5. What’s the tune that gives you instant nostalgia?

Michael McDonald – “I Keep Forgettin” (1982)

Although I vaguely remember this track from my childhood, it always reminds me of the G-Funk classic that sampled it: Warren G – “Regulators” … it dually brings to mind the smooth yacht-rock AOR stuff that dominated the radio in the 80s, and also all the Rap and G-Funk stuff that I listened to in the 90s that either sampled or emulated that sound. Also I was trained to do live sound by a sound-guy that used this song to test every single system that we set up…his argument was that he knew this song so well that he could pick out any issue on any system, that it was a safe enough song to play in front of any crowd/client, and that anyone from any background or upbringing would probably like it.

Guy Cuevas – “Obsession (Massau Mix)” (1982)

High speed cruising at night is a different space where the night view of a skyscraper glows. The strange feeling of air created by this song increases this feeling even more.

Martin L. Dumas Jr. – “Attitude Belief & Determination” (Zaf LoveVinyl Slight Edit) (2015)

It is one of the best mellow songs ever from “Windy City · Chicago”. The intro of this song is the entrance of the kaleidoscope world of sound which lasts for 10 minutes. This track features the four members of “Rasputin’s Stash” as well as Teresa Davis, a former member of The Emotions. Defintaley a world class sound!

3.What’s your favorite tune for a romantic evening?

Yasuko Agawa – “L.A. Nights‘” (1986)

Here’s the ultimate song to spend a romantic night with your love of your life. This song was composed by Augie Johnson from Side Effect.

4. What’s your favorite tune to shake your body down to the ground?

Pike – “Good Feelings” (1982)

“Pike” written by Wesley Hall who is a genius guitar player who revived New York’s long-established funk band “B.T. Express” in the 1980s. this single released in 82 years is a raging funk soul gem only released on 12 inch single that demonstrates all the talent of Wesley Hall.

5. What’s the tune that gives you instant nostalgia?

Leo Basel – “Quelle Drôle De Vie” (1986)

French singer/songwriter Leo Basel . Both vocal and instrumental versions are good, it features a nice piano on the instrumental version, this song has a nostalgic feel that I really like !

LA. based Parisian Producer/Turntablist Ghost, continues his journey into the L.A. underground music scene.
He has played alongside various artists such as Harvey Mason, Jurassic 5, J-Rocc, Mark de Clive-Lowe and more recently The Egyptian Lover.
Ghost is also known for his collaboration as keyboardist for MoFunk records.
As owner of Spectrum Records, Ghost released his first 45 with L.A funk artist XL Middleton.
Ghost recently released his debut E.P entitled “Snapshot”.

Henry Mancini – “Butterfly” (1975)

Crusing at night is a very relaxing experience for me. It’s a time where I like to let my mind travel as I take in the L.A backdrop.This beautiful symphonic rendition of Herbie Hancock’s “Butterfly” with its spacious strings and laid-back electric piano is the perfect soundtrack.

2. What’s your favorite tune to chill?

Delegation – “Oh Honey” (1977)

When stress gets the best of me and it’s time to chill, this tune from British band Delegation has a special place in my heart.
Sit back, relax, turn up the volume and let this groove take you on a journey!

Patrice Rushen – “Remind Me‘” (1982)

“I can recall a certain magic in your eyes
I’m under your spell each time that you appear

D-Train- “Music” (1983)

D-Train’s “Music” is a timeless dancefloor classic which defines what funk is all about: to make people dance and have a good time.
Definitely one of the finest funk tracks ever made. What would we do without our music??

Art Of Noise – “Moments In Love” (1984)

Some songs just speak directly to your soul when you first hear them. I was 7 years old the first time I heard it. I remember feeling emotions I didn’t really understand at that age. “Moments in Love” is one of those magic tracks that triggers nostalgia
and brings back memories.

Christina Gubala, perhaps better known as DJ Lady C, is a record selector and radio personality from Los Angeles. She has been involved with various radio stations including KCHUNGradio.org, where she hosted a basketball talk show called Slam Dunx From The Free Throw Line, and dublab, where she currently hosts a music program entitled Rare Air. She is a contributing writer for LA Record, through which has had the privilege of conducting a series of interviews with legends like Martin Rev, Harold Budd, Yeofi Andoh and more. When not flipping through dusty record bins and procrastinating on writing record reviews, she can be caught DJing around Los Angeles at various bars, art galleries, museums, and when lucky, weddings and proms. She is a Libra who loves 808s, philodendrons, ceramics, old Jamaican vinyl, and the color green.

1. What’s your favorite tune to cruise at night?

Loose Ends – “Nights Of Pleasure” (1986)

This track is blessed with an unflappable, invincible air of pacific romance. Its lush swirls and sparkles sound like fireflies on an early summer evening and its circular melody creates an illusion of eternity, without any pressure except to keep the groove going (which is why I recommend cross fading it directly into Suga Free’s “DoeDoe & Da Skunk”, an equally serene 90’s west coast floater that samples the elegant synth of “Nights of Pleasure”).

2. What’s your favorite tune to chill?

A Vision Of Panorama – “Cloud Two” (2017)

Any Vision of Panorama song can chill me right out regardless of the turntable speed at which it is played, but there is something particularly relaxing about the aptly named “Cloud Two” of their 2017 self titled release on Chit Chat. V.O.P. is an antidote to the modern information inundation that feels increasingly difficult to escape, somehow confident in the peace it conveys through a seamless cocktail of synths and distinctly without edge.

3.What’s your favorite tune for a romantic evening?

Luther Vandross – “The Night I Fell In Love‘” (1985)

Skip the wine, the candles, the satin sheets. This track is the entire package in and of itself. There’s probably not much I can say about Luther that hasn’t already been sung to the heavens in the decades since which he has finally become appreciated, but is it ever enough? Lord knows it’s never too much. It is tender romance distilled into a slinky, sultry memoir of the very first night, a smokey tryst and its glowing embers, and it’s perfect (true to Luther’s exacting form).

4. What’s your favorite tune to shake your body down to the ground?

Change- “The Glow Of Love” (1980)

Luther’s second appearance on this list, and in his own words, “the most beautiful song he ever heard.” It’s familiar yet fresh, a classic disco banger with a vocal performance so soulful it feels like every positive emotion at once, a celebration of all that’s “new and true and gay.” The way Luther cries “Honey, I LOVE you” has come to define the way love feels to me – vibrating with pitch-perfect abandon on a warm summer breeze. This track is why god invented dancing.

5. What’s the tune that gives you instant nostalgia?

Rick James – “Dance Wit’ Me” (1982)

Courtesy of MTV and early 90’s radio, the berets and mom jeans, a cross pendant or earring and Lisa’s rouge alto are the sketches of womanhood I cobbled together from a distance. She was profoundly more understandable, more achievable to me than the supermodels of George Michael videos and the vamping ubiquity of Madonna. Her patient way of walking through the the track’s chorus, “We just got to let it ouuuuuut” seemed so mature to me in an era where pop stardom allowed for grown ass people to sound like grown ass people. In our current age where even in adulthood I feel trapped with my peers in an endless ennui of millennial arrested development, “You Can’t Deny It” transports me back to an era where adulthood seemed to carry a sexy dignity.

Todd Shima aka Boogalicious comes from California’s State Capital, Sacramento, and is one half of the deejaying duo along with DJ Ben Johnson (Love Cryme, Delta Breeze Records). Ben and Todd have an all-vinyl, monthly spot called Lazer Funk, established by Ben, that has been running for over 6 years. Todd has been amassing records all his life and has been an active “crate digger” for over 20 years. Having grown up during the 80s’, his early musical influences include Lakeside, Ozone, Dynasty, and The Reddings. 1. What’s your favorite tune to cruise at night?

Anne G – “Love At Dawn” (1989)

If you were going ask me my favorite tune to cruise in the day, it would probably be more on the uptempo tip. That said, I always equate cruising at night to something slower in tempo. Circa 1989, I would always go cruising with the homies and this was a popular one regularly in the cassette rotation because it hit so hard.

2. What’s your favorite tune to chill?

Howard Johnson – “Keepin’ Love New” (1982)

More that anything, this one comes from emotion- pure feel good music. It doesn’t get as much consideration as “So Fine” and “Say You Wanna” yet garners every bit of attention it surely deserves. Plus, I mean. It’s HoJo and Kashif. Enough said.

3.What’s your favorite tune for a romantic evening?

Wynd Chymes – “Love Has Come Again‘” (1982)

Man, when you say, “romantic evening,” I like to take it way down. Who needs Netflix when you have the Wynd Chymes. Add this one to your slow jam mix and trust you’ll make it past first base. Definitely a sax offender.

4. What’s your favorite tune to shake your body down to the ground?

Gwen McCrae – “Keep The Fire Burning” (1982)

The second that bassline kicks in, you know I’m headed straight to the dance floor! Every time I deejay this 12”, the reaction is instant. Hands in the air and grins from ear to ear is a prerequisite. And the catchy chorus keeps your head nodding all night long. This one is too worthy to ever take out of your crate.

5. What’s the tune that gives you instant nostalgia?

Rick James – “Dance Wit’ Me” (1982)

The “Throwin’ Down” album was the first Rick James record I bought back in 1982 at the now defunct Tower Records (RIP Russ Solomon). Really, this whole record is heavy top to bottom. This track reminds me of my cousin, whose boyfriend had a ’77 Monte Carlo and one time, took me on the classic Franklin Boulevard Cruise in Sacramento and I just remember the 6×9’s and the hissing of the highs. Funk never sounded so sweet.

Kirollus is a record collector and DJ hailing from the Brighton, England. Growing up on hip hop, like many others he ended up seeking out the samples of his favorite tunes. In 2014 he began to collect records, by this time Hip Hop was still his favorite but it was finding Funk, Soul & Jazz specialist Uptight Records in his home town that changed everything.

Not long after stumbling across the hidden gem he managed to land a job there. Eddy Funkster, Voyage Funktastique, DanceGroove Radio & Boogie80 are credited to have opened his world to the magical 80s and now he has a respectable collection of over a thousand records. All killer no filler! He’s honored to be able to showcase a selection of tunes from his collection to the Boogie80 fans.

1. What’s your favorite tune to cruise at night?

Delegation – “It’s Your Turn” (1983)

This song is the perfect tempo for riding around to and I love the way all the elements begin to bounce into place during the intro and then in swoops in that awesome glittery synth as the undeniable groove takes over. Feel good, catchy vocals work their magic and the wicked use of delay and reverb effects make this perfect song to cruise to.

2. What’s your favorite tune to chill?

Marlena Shaw – “Without You In My Life” (1982)

From 1982 this stepper is just incredible and yet so simple! The strings, beautuful chords, bass, sublte synth, shord action and emotional performance by Miss Shaw make this a stunning song that just makes me melt away and fall into a tranquil state every time I play it. That gorgous and restrained sax towards the end is just the icing on the cake.

3.What’s your favorite tune for a romantic evening?

Universal Robot Band – “Barely Breaking Even‘” (1982)

I wanted to choose a heavy boogie funk tune but this song… man this is the one! Every parts of me is smiling and dancing when this comes on. Such a classic and for good reason.

4. What’s your favorite tune to shake your body down to the ground?

Great production by The Neptunes and a slick performance by Snoop. This was from the first album I ever purchased back in 2004 and reminds me of my school crush that I never plucked up the courage to ask out. I probably like it more now than I did growing up!

Danbone is a DJ/Producer born and raised in Austin, Texas. He is most known for his work with the Austin Boogie Crew. Danbone runs Austin’s edition of the crew’s night, “The Boogie” with fellow members Chicken George and Chorizo Funk while Spence holds down LA’s edition with Ghost. He also contributes his efforts towards talent seeking for Austin Boogie Crew Records and promotion for their events and releases.

Music has always played a big role in Danbone’s life. He’s been dancing since diapers, raised in a household surrounded by the sounds of artists like Mike Oldfield and Genesis. Danbone’s deep interest in music fueled his drive to discover more. At the age of 19, he started collecting records. In 2011, he studied Music Business, Performance & Technology at Austin Community College where he took classes on Synthesis and basic Music Fundamentals. Hopefully we’ll hear some of his production in the future.

After spending a year in LA, he’s back in his home town maintaining his focus towards what matters to him the most, the music. Alongside plenty of Modern Funk & Boogie, he incorporates jazz fusion, brazilian jazz, reggae and even some Library/AOR sounds into his mixes. You can stream his work on his Mixcloud page.

1. What’s your favorite tune to cruise at night?

Jeff Lorber – “Pacific Coast Highway” (1985)

Not only is this a great tune to cruise at night to, but it’s one that you’ll often hear in my sets. I love pretty much anything Lorber does but this song is butter from beginning to end. This song is exactly what it feels like to cruise down the PCH at sunset.

2. What’s your favorite tune to chill?

The David Chesky Band – “Hangin’” (1980)

This is a nice Sunday morning wake up tune. Gotta love the sax jazz. The name obviously speaks for itself but this slow tempo weather forecast jam is exactly what I wanna hear when I’m chillin’. Sax gets real nice around 4:45.

3.What’s your favorite tune for a romantic evening?

The Love Unlimited Orchestra – “Midnight And You’” (1980)

Can’t get much more romantic than this sensual groove by Barry White.

Light them candles. “Right on baby, right on…”

Fun fact: I had a radio show on KAZI 88.7fm here in Austin. It aired from midnight to 2am on Tuesday nights.

It was called “The Bone Zone”.This was the intro track.

4. What’s your favorite tune to shake your body down to the ground?

Chuck Bynum – “Marathon Lover” (1980)

This one right here! Shout out to Cyrus D & the crew!

This is a tune that you will hear any member of ABC play at some point at The Boogie, no matter what.
In fact, it’s so nice you might just hear it twice!

The bass, don’t get me started. The soulful vocals immediately catch you and keep you intrigued until it’s finale. Everything about this song is amazing.

5. What’s the tune that gives you instant nostalgia?

Bobby Brown – “On Your Own” (1989)

I was born in 1988 so I was only a year old when this came out, but my older brother and I were huge Ghostbusters fans. I think we still have some of our action figures laying around somewhere. Every time I hear this song it takes me back to watching the movie as a kid. “On Our Own” plays during one of the best scenes of the movie.

It all started when Sven was 17 years old. After persevering on drums he accidentally found himself playing bass with his High school trio one night in their weekly after school rehearsal. He quickly noticed he felt more at ease with the electric bass. The group soon agreed the swapping of instruments and went on to perform in various school performance evenings and events.

Sven practiced on the Bass everyday, mainly learning songs by ear and writing grooves on an 8-track Fostex recorder. it was roughly a year After pursuing Art and media studies at the local college Sven realized he could no longer ignore his hunger and love for music. In 2002, Sven enrolled at Colchester Institute where he studied for two years in music theory, production and performance. After completing the course he still craved for further education on both his instrument and the music industry.

In 2004, Sven enrolled at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts where he studied for four years and graduated with a diploma in performance electric bass. He studied with the likes of Marty Walsh (Super Tramp, Neil Diamond, Donna Summer). He also had one on one private tuition with some of Berklee’s renouned bass faculty like Anthony Vitti, (The Platters, Sammy Davis Jr). and Lenny Stallworth, (Roy Hargrove, Maceo Parker). Sven got to meet some of his all-time favourite influential musicians such as Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller, ‘Francis Rocco Prestia and Chick Corea.

His debut EP ‘The Cove’ released on Omega Supreme Records in 2015 is the demonstration of Sven’s unique ability to create atmospheric funky music.

1. What’s your favorite tune to cruise at night?

Answer: Rodney Franklin – “Stay On In The Groove” (1984)

I love cruising to this one, The chords allow the scenery to float by to a steady mid tempo beat. I usually play instrumentals versions to really appreciate the groove of songs. you can’t deny that bass line, make sure the subs are up!

2. What’s your favorite tune to chill?

Answer: Eric Serra – “Deep Blue Dream” (1988)

This track was taken from the movie Big Blue, a beautiful movie with a great sound track.
Eric Serra is great at writing film scores and making music for film. I love the fretless bass on this track, the whole tune is beautiful and always transports me to swimming in the sea.

3.What’s your favorite tune for a romantic evening?

Answer: Eric Leeds – “The Dopamine Rush” (1991)

Theres nothing better than a real log fire, some wine and a good Saxophone track, and of course some good company.
I think this track was originally written by Prince, featuring him on Bass. There is another version where he signs. I love Erics playing, settle flute riffs, catchy horn line, tight bass, Perfection

4. What’s your favorite tune to shake your body down to the ground?

Answer: Michael Sterling – “You” (1986)

I love jigging to this one, Michael Sterling really seems to drive the groove to this track. The chords are beautiful, lots of space to allow room for the guitar comping. this always gets my toe tapping.

5. What’s the tune that gives you instant nostalgia?

Answer: Steve Miller Band – “Shangri Lah” (1984)

I remember my dad playing this a lot when I was younger. I think this record was quite ahead of its time back 1984. The use of samples and drum machines together with live drums always sounds great to me. The break down in this tune is great, I love the syncopation of Steves productions.
